Poached Pears in Red Wine

This fruit is often over looked it is a great addition to many dishes especially salad.

Ingredients;
6 pears
2 cups sugar
4 cups red wine
Directions:
Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact. Put the pears into the slow cooker
In a small bowl, combine the sugar and wine. Add to the slow cooker
Cook on Low for 4 hours, until the pears are soft but not mushy.
Remove pears from the poaching liquid
You can reduce the poaching liquid to make a syrup, simply put into a sauce pan over high heat and stir until it thickens.

3-1/2 oz seeded pink grapefruit segments
7 oz pear chunks
2 tablespoons sugar water*
6 small ice cubs

Directions:

In a blender, combine grapefruit, pears, sugar water, and ice. Blend until smooth.

*You can substitute honey, maple syrup, agave nectar or another sweetener of your choice.

Tip:  You can used canned fruit just reduce the ice. You can also use the frozen fruit again just adjust the ice.
